The Mentor Movement Teaching the skills towards becoming an Educated and Responsible Outdoor Recreationalist Goal: Teaching the foundational skills of climbing to set one up for the adventures to come. Skill Requirements: Top rope and lead belay General movement on rock, climbing 5.8 comfortably on Top Rope Ability to carry 30 lb pack for over a mile Stoke to learn skills to become self-sufficient in the sport of climbing What’s included: 4 guided days out with AMGA certified guide 4 nights of camping accommodations Group and personal climbing gear Climbing Permits Dates: May 2022 May 13th-15th : Forming Meaningful Belaytionships May 27th-29th : Becoming a Leader Skills taught: Trip Planning: Starting from how to read a guidebook and Mountain Project, to planning out where your adventures will take you. Anchor Building: How to build a variety of anchors and assess security and redundancy Rappelling and Lowering: ethics around both techniques, skills to tackle both, all while understanding how to make the decision of which technique is best suited for which situation one may find themselves in. Lead Climbing: Learn the foundational skills to understand what it takes to set up a climb. Curriculum: Weekend 1: Forming Meaningful Belaytionships Location: Alabama Hills Route finding, reading a guide book, planning out your trip Learn how to build and asses a variety of Anchors Develop the skills, while understanding the ethics and difference of Lowering and Rappelling off a route (how to clean a route) Put all of your new skills to work! Repetition is key when learning new tools! Weekend 2: Becoming a Leader Location: ORG Tying all of the skills from the previous two weekends together Allowing space to practice skills and solidify confidence in education Opportunities to Mock Lead while diving deeper into the ‘How-To’s of setting up routes to facilitate your own day out to climb Focus: New camp spot each month Check out two different camping spots close to the climbing destinations of each weekend out! New climbing area to explore each outing Building foundational skills Prices:: $650 for 2 weekends out. Must commit to both scheduled weekend of the program.
